6 Killed, 17 Injured in Quebec City Mosque Shooting

6 Reportedly Killed During Sunday Prayers.

Alexandre Bissonnette, a 27 year old French-Canadian university student has been charged with 6 counts of murder, and 5 counts of attempted murder by a local Quebec court.  The man identified as the shooter turned himself in to police hours after conducting an attack on the Quebec City Islamic Center.

A second man, Mohamed Belkhadir, initially thought to be involved in the shooting was released from custody after police learned he was only a witness.

According to Chief Inspector Andre Goulet of Quebec’s provincial police agency, there are no indications that anybody else was involved. Police have declined to give further personal details and have refused to elaborate on possible motives of the attacker.

Numerous world leaders have called Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and expressed their condolences to the Canadian people, including US President Donald Trump.

“This is another senseless act of violence,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer said during Monday’s daily briefing. “It cannot be tolerated. We condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms. It is a terrible reminder of why we must remain vigilant and why the president is taking steps to be proactive rather than reactive.”
