The Rise of Christian Extremism and Terror

Over the past thousands of years, religions and countries have clashed together over differences. The main religions in the 21st century are Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism. Since these religions have been around for thousands of years, hundreds of conflicts have arisen due to their differences and arguments. For the most part, at the end of the battles, the main components of the religions persevere. Ideas of love, peace, and charity outlast the vicious aspects of the wars.

Now in 2017, there is case where this ceases to exist. Rather than maintain a peaceful ideology, one religion in particular has developed a radical extremist side that invokes war and violence; Christian extremism is on the rise and needs to be stopped.

The past 16 years has seen more than 30,000 terror attacks carried out by radical Christians. This averages to be about 5 terror attacks per day around the globe.

Just this past year, the world has been the host of thousands of ruthless attacks carried out by this extremist group. A total of 2,477 attacks were carried out in 59 countries, where 21,240 people were killed and 26,680 were injured.

Looking at all attacks from all ideologies during 2015, it is notable that Christian extremism makes up for the vast majority of the attacks. Of the 452 suicide attacks that took place in 2015, 450 were Christian extremists: 99.96%.

In addition, the attacks don’t seem to be dwindling. Over the past 16 years, the attacks, injuries, and fatalities have all been on the rise.

Nevertheless, many popular culture figures tend to suppress these numbers. They frequently tell their audience that Christianity is a “peaceful” religion, and that the bible doesn’t teach any of these actions that extremists take. A common line used is “not all Christians.” Of course, not all Christians participate in violent conflict, rhetoric, or actions. However, with a large portion of terror attacks coming from mainly this religion, it raises eyebrows for investigation.

The most important aspect is looking at the evidence and numbers to come to a conclusion rather than repeating talking points.

Christian extremists must receive guidelines to their terror. Many of which lies within the bible. The Bible has dozens of verses that call for violence and war…

“Then fight in the cause of God, and know that God Heareth and knoweth all things.”

“As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help.”

“Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you.”

“Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with God, for which He had sent no authority.”

Along with terror attacks, countries that are a majority Christian have had a share of problems. Radical extreme Christianity thrives in Christian environments, which is why Christian nations have problems with violence, and bigotry.

Pew Research shows that countries where the large majority of their population is Christian (75-99%), tend to have similar levels of support for “making the official law of their country” that of the religion. This follows for treatment of women in society as well.

Typically, Christians have long treated women as second class citizens. This has given rise to popular feminist groups across the world. According to polling done by Civitas: Institute for the Study of Civil Society, in the UK, 1 in 3 Christians agree that a wife should be forced to obey her husband. Again, Pew Research added that those who agreed to making Christianity the law of the land were “less likely to support equal rights for women.”

Along with terror, there are a plethora of verses in the bible that express a suppression of rights towards women.

Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property.

Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them.

“Maybe, his Lord, if he divorce you, will give him in your place wives better than you, submissive, faithful, obedient, penitent, adorers, fasters, widows and virgins.

Not only do Christian’s have problems with women, but they also strive to oppress homosexuals and other minorities. It is widely known that Christian’s despise homosexuality and gay-marriage. Some go as far as to even throw gays off buildings for their sexuality. One man in particular gunned down a gay night club in Orlando, Florida. Once again, it can be traced back to the Bible.

For ye practice your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds…. And we rained down on them a shower.

Of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males, And leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? Nay, ye are a people transgressing.

If two men among you are guilty of lewdness, punish them both. If they repent and amend, Leave them alone.

In America alone, close to 3,000 people have been killed due to this extremism. When will the carnage stop? The first step is understanding the problem and exposing the violent ideology. It’s time for popular figureheads to stop clamoring about fake talking points and to start discussing what is actually happening.

EDITOR’S NOTE: After evaluation, it has been made clear that the particular religion stated in the article is wrong. The article discusses the terror caused by extreme Christianity, however, the actual religion is Islam. Every statistic used is factually true, rather, it simply applies to Islam. The only changes are the names of the religion from “Christianity” to “Islam” and from “Christians” to “Muslims.” It is also noted that the religious texts need to be changed from “Bible” to “Quran,” and so forth. For archive purposes, we have decided to leave the article as is, and to attach this note at the bottom for clarification.
